Race Rules - What To Wear
We know what you're thinking, the Races aren't until the Summer! What are we doing talking about them now? At Molly Browns, we know how important it is to feel and look your absolute best, especially on a Special Occasion or glamorous event. We also know that the earlier you start looking for your perfect Race Dress or Outfit, the far wider choice you have to explore! Many designers don't repeat their styles and so once they're gone, they're gone! The latest 2017 collections from John Charles, Ronald Joyce, Condici, Ispirato, Irresistible and Eleni Elias to name but a few are already here in-store in York so why not plan ahead and secure yours today?
Of course, when planning to attend events like York Racecourse's Ebor Festival or the Royal Ascot, there are certain dress codes to take into consideration. We thought we'd help lay them out for you...
Royal Ascot (20th - 24th June 2017)
The Royal Ascot's Dress Code has a variety of rules that also depend on the enclosure you are attending:
ROYAL ENCLOSURE
- Ladies should wear dresses and skirts of a "modest length" falling just above the knee or longer.
- Any straps on your dress or top should be at least an inch wide.
- Ladies can wear jackets or pashminas as long as the clothes underneath comply with the rest of the Dress Code.
- Hats are compulsory, though headpieces with a solid base of at least 4 inches in diameter are an acceptable alternative.
- Strapless, halter neck, off the shoulder and spaghetti straps are NOT permitted.
- Midriffs must be covered.
- Fascinators are NOT permitted.
For an example of a Race Outfit that would look fabulous in the Royal Enclosure, we suggest looking at something like these beautiful and elegant styles. (Ispirato IW949, John Charles 26249B, Ispirato IW908)
QUEEN ANNE ENCLOSURE
- Ladies are encouraged to dress for a formal occasion.
- Hats or Fascinators should be worn at all times.
- Midriffs must be covered.
- Strapless/sheer strap dresses and tops are NOT permitted.
With the Queen Anne Enclosure, you have a little more leeway to define your ideal look and the additonal option of a fascinator as opposed to strictly a hat. WINDSOR ENCLOSURE
In the Windsor Enclosure, no formal Dress Code applies, though ladies are still encouraged to dress smart. Here's our pick for a stunning Race Outfit for your day out. (Irresistible IR8624S7, John Charles 26211B, Ronald Joyce - Veni Infantino 991009)
Ebor Festival (23rd - 26th August 2017)
York Racecourse's Dress Code is a little less strict. Ladies are advised simply to dress for a smart Summer occasion and hats are welcomed but not compulsory. No jeans, t-shirts or sportswear, but let's be honest, you were looking for something more glamorous weren't you! With rules like these, the breadth of Race Outfit choice is much wider and you have the leeway to accessorize even further!
